I Found My Home (In Your Arms)

I stand here watching the train leave the station, a cab carrying the only person who'd ever understood me, loved me, cared for me as if I were her own. And I was. I fell in love with her over a period of time. It wasn't at first sight and I'm glad that it turned out that way. But from exactly when did I say to myself, "I love her," I really cannot say.

Was it in the sound of her laugh? The way her eyes lit up when I told her to have a good day? Or was it in the front of her house, where I once spent hours in the pouring rain waiting for her to open the door. And she did. We spent that day drinking hot chocolate in front of the fire, simply looking at the flame which seemed to dance around the pieces of wood placed underneath. A dance that takes me back to the time we strolled through the park on a misty Monday morning, no other souls in sight - it was just us. It seemed that the encore would last forever, that we'd spend the rest of our lives sitting underneath that oak tree, bodies laid, eyes staring upwards into a vast sky that seemed to have no end.

But there are stars that our eyes are not capable of seeing. There are questions that we will never find the answers for, and perhaps we're not meant to. Maybe we are nothing but grains of sand on the shores of a shining beach. The winds have picked up and have scattered us. I don't even know where you are anymore.

But when i look into the horizon, I hope to see your return in a ship with a white flag raised. Ready to surrender the past to the past, and to offer up the future for the heavens. Because my darling, that is where we are headed.

The train has left and I am still standing here. I cast a look into the distance but you are far gone. I find a bench to sit on and I wait; the leaves falling from the trees and decorating the tracks with a myriad of reds, oranges, and yellows.

The day has just begun and it's time to go. With no destination in mind, empty pockets, and a head full of memories, I make my way to a place where I may see you again.

Will you be there?
