Birds Have Nests Too
The world is crashing upon the ridges of his mind and his body falters. Aching and hurting, he wants to give up, knowing that it will save him from inevitable disappointment. He desires to be comfortable, to be satisfied. So great is his desire, he doesn't see the toll it has taken on his very being. His knees and his hands tremble at the sound of her voice. His head aches and his heart burns when he closes his eyes, seeing only a mist; covering the path and refusing to let him see where his actions are taking him. He doesn't want to step forward anymore. He wishes to stay but he knows it will do no good.
He is tired.
What was once a sea has turned into a barren wasteland.
What was once a universe has been reduced to a single star.
The wind screams as he stands outside of his house, rippling through his clothes and scattering his hair across his forehead. He looks defeated but he knows he is far from it. He is only exhausted. To retreat does not mean defeat. To lay down does not mean to give up.
The birds are singing in the trees. They've just had a long day and have flown to their nests in order to rest and recharge. The next morning, they'll get up and fly again but they weren't meant to stay in the air forever. They too, have nests to retreat to. He smiles at the skies because he knows the birds are watching.
To have such an incredible ability that runs on one's willpower and physical strength. It is unfortunate that there is only so much a bird and a human can do. The capacity to fly is limited but the desire to live amongst the clouds is everlasting.
In his head he is invincible. He holds all the power and the zeal in the world in order to be happy. But he knows Rome wasn't built in a day. There is still much work to be done. One day at a time he thinks to himself. Breath by breath, chance by chance.
From his nest to the sky, from the sky to the moon and from the moon to the Beyond.
Drop by drop until his wasteland has been transformed into an ocean.
Star by star until he holds collections of galaxies within his eyes and speaks supernovas from his voice.
Day by day until his cup is filled to the brim with lessons, heartbreaks, successes and love.
The wind and the birds quiets themselves to a whisper and his soul does the same. As he listens to the caverns of his heart, he hears a voice.
Let us begin.
