Hey there! For the past few days, as I scroll on Twitter and Instagram, I have grown increasingly frustrated and conflicted with the situation in Alabama and the reactions of people responding to the ban of abortion.

As a Catholic, I am pro-life no matter what. I believe that the practice of abortion is an act of murder and thereby a mortal sin. However, with situations like rape and incest; to the concept of a girl barely eleven years old having to bear her own child makes me sick to my stomach. These girls and women did not ask to be sexually assaulted or defiled by some deranged individual. And now in the state of Alabama, they are no longer permitted to abort their baby.

If anything, the government should be doing more in order to support these women who have found themselves in an incredibly difficult state. Being pro-life doesn't mean I think that women should suffer and have to live with something they did not ask for, being pro-life to me means giving someone a chance at living the life they have been given. It means to support all life, especially those are in the womb and nowadays, those women who have been placed in a painful process they wanted no part of. If you are going to ban abortion for all women, why not offer financial support or funds for those who were immorally impregnated and forced to carry a child? Instead of making them suffer, struggle and potentially die in the case of illegal and unsafe abortions. There has to be some sort of line and incentive in order to preserve the lives of not only the baby but the mother herself. The society we live in now however, doesn't provide us with any quick fixes or immediate antidotes in these situations. There has to be something that we all must hold in our hearts in order to preserve our humanity, both political leaders and citizens alike.

I believe that love and compassion must be at the forefront of society. Love for those who live and are yet to live. Love for the mother and the child she carries. Love for all and compassion for those who suffer and struggle through their tribulations. I do not hate pro-choice but I stand by pro-life and will continue to do so, even if it challenges my moral values as a human being. Catholic, Muslim, Buddhist, Atheist or whatever denomination, the need for love in the society we live in is essential in order to progress as citizens of this world we share.

It's hard to read tweets and see pictures that have really questioned my Catholic views and background. From my perspective, the Catholic Church and society in general have no longer been black and white but simply clumps of grey mixed together. No longer do I see a mosaic of diversity, love and acceptance but an abstract painting of doubt, fear and disappointment. You might disagree with me on this blog post and that's okay. The world I live in now is no longer simple. It is no longer a playground filled with fantasies but a maze of uncertainty.

Being Catholic helps me to better my relationship with God and I know that these questions and the doubt I hold will only bring me closer to Him. Until the clouds are torn apart by his blinding and radiant truth. I will continue to pray for victims of rape, incest and those who are contemplating an abortion. I'll pray for all people around the world, battling inequality, oppression and injustice at the hands of their government. I will also pray for those who like me, feel the conflicts in their hearts when seeing a pro-choice tweet or image on social media.

May He continue to be in our hearts despite the storm we find ourselves in, for like the world we live in, it too shall pass.
